During this one and a half day workshop, it is hoped that participants from many
long term field sites will be willing to work with producers of satellite
albedo products for one or more designated periods to provide an assessment
of the operational products. While this will primarily be a virtual campaign, utilizing existing field and satellite data resources, the LPV Subgroup
will be able to provide limited web support for posting data and comparisons
and facilitating communication.
Note that registration (by 8-Apr-2005) for the EGU General Assembly Meeting will be required to attend this workshop.
Although hosted by EGU to facilitate the participation in other regular sessions,
the workshop is a splinter meeting, and thus is organized separately. This will allow more flexibility in the discussions on albedo validation issues. We would like to initiate a series of roundtable discussions around a set of
major topics. For this reason, we would like to know if you will be attending, and in which
roundtable discussion you are most interested in participating. Please respond by 15-March-2005 and include a few lines briefly describing your interest and possible contribution
to this workshop. The roundtable discussions will focus on:
- definitions of albedo with regard to applications
- ground measurements of albedo
- temporal and spatial representativeness of ground measured albedo
- comparison between satellite albedo products and ground measurements
- intercomparison between albedo products derived from different sensors or algorithms
- proposition for future campaigns

The 1st CEOS/WGCV/LPV Workshop on Albedo Products was held in October of 2002
at Boston University. The "Summary of the International Workshop on Surface Albedo Product Validation," was published in The Earth Observer, in the Nov-Dec 2002 issue (see Vol. 14, No. 6).
